Jenni78,
right now I'm hangin out with you..lol
I live in Southern Indiana.

Abominations?
I don't think so at all.

Not every person who participates in this (sport) is a big name celebrity same as they are not all toothless, whud ya call em, white trash?

Yes it's illegal.

No they are not my friends...just people I know, or knew.

I don't have pictures of dogs with their faces ripped off, or of an abdomen tore open, no recording of the sound of a leg being broken, it's a very distinctive sound by the way.
But I do know of one video that made it's way into the hands of one city detective, somehow nothing ever came of it.
I sensed it had something to do with undercover informants at the match who ended up on the video, and what they were really after were drug dealers.

I agree the scars last forever, or at least as long as the dog lives.

I didn't start this to begin a pissing match, I was only trying to explain to Erin some of my experiences.

Erin who hasn't been around much lately.

Abhay, in the 90s in Baltimore City, you did not call the police to report dog fight wounds. The police knew the deal, and were doing their best, you would likely run the risk of getting the hospital shot up, robbed or worse, and lastly, that would be calling several times a week for something as I said, the police were already aware of and dealing with to the best of their ability. Similar to applying a bandaid to a gunshot wound.
As far as me kicking back and enjoying dogfight videos at the hospital? Uhm, no, that is not at all remotely what I said, but yes, I have seen very disturbing and horrific videos of dog fights, and I have seen the resulting carcasses of bait animals.
I find it quite amusing actually that you feel the need to argue some points that I have made from years of actual life experiences. I was merely sharing stories, not criticizing or arguing any points.
The fact that you cannot see any tooth marks from a grainy picture of a picture from the 90s makes no difference to me. The dog had marks, period. :-) Seriously, there are many other worthy things to argue. To argue my actual life experiences seems a bit ridiculous.

Brent, I live 45 mins outside Chicago, in a quiet suburb. I don't consider that close to Southern IN. I've been through IN a few times...some of it's very pretty, as far as the land. A lot of it seems like the armpit of the Midwest, as far as the people, which would coincide with my theory on the folks you've had experiences with. I'm not trying to be rude, just what I've seen driving through. Like anywhere else, there are good and bad areas.

I don't think you understood what I meant, based on your abominations comment.

Sheesh, I don't see a bait dog in that photo. I was just at a show where there were a couple dogs that had been matched pretty extensively, by the looks of them. They have a look about them, totally different. The scar tissue looks totally different from repeated trauma than a dog who gets in a fight or two. How do you know he didn't just get in a fight or two with a housemate if he has a couple marks? I don't know where you got him, so I won't guess and I'm not trying to argue.

There is an idea that every Pit Bull has some dark history. I got "awww" and "ohhhhh" coos of sympathy when I took Simon through the Starbuck's drive thru, you know, where all the dog fighters hang out. LOL.  Without me saying anything, they assumed he was a rescue, assumed he was a rescued fighting dog, no less, gave me kudos for rescuing him, LMAO, and gave him a small cup of whipped cream.  I guess since I don't "look" like a dog fighter, I must've rescued him from one, because no one else keeps Pit Bulls, in the minds of the public majority. I asked why they thought he was a rescue, genuinely incredulous, since I think he looks pretty damn good, and they said point blank- his ears were cut off for fighting. Um...yeah. His ears are cropped in a perfect show crop because it fit his type and because he was constantly getting them ripped up as a puppy (they were terrible- huge and paper thin). I'm not trying to be argumentative, just point out that a lot of assumptions are made because of stereotypes.

Hey moons, I was just asking if it was a common practice!! LoL.. Why is Abhay being so hostile? (joke, please don't yell at me Abhay :)  ... ) Anyways, I really was asking an honest question, since I am not familiar with the APBT, other than owning a rescue..  I don't have a problem with the chains, per se, but these looked all very heavy, the collars looked rubbed onto necks, and the area was filthy, like the dogs STAYED there.. I personally would never keep my dogs in those conditions.. The guy was talking about his dogs might having heart worms and kennel cough, then advertising he bred the daughter to father.. So I am going to guess he did none of the research genetically and what not to make a solid breeding.. I was just being nosy, it really wasn't any of my business how he runs his "kennel".. I just felt bad for his dogs..
When I worked for San Bernardino County ACO, we used to get a lot of tore up almost dead, or dead dogs dumped all over from dog fighters.. They used them to encourage their young dogs to fight, teach them to dominate and a want to fight.. This is just what I was told by a work release guy and his cronies... He was on a drug charge, but was into dog fighting.. He kept going on about how many good dogs we had at the shelter :/

Starbucks huh? Where one is almost guaranteed to rub elbows with dog fighters, and dog baiters. I have it on good authority, with my life experiences and all, that bets are taken and matches set up thru the "drive thru" window! The sound of a Starbucks Cup filled with a Caramel Latte, is not something I will soon forget.
Jenni, I always knew that SIMON was just too muscular to not be a fighting dog!  I'm going to keep my eye on you!

Erin,
Hi stranger,
lol.
i think breeding has it's geniuses and it's fools and I'll leave it at that.

Abhay has a lot of knowledge and he was just being passionate, not hostile.

We have gotten off the topic a bit.

Sorry to all, but I have my passions too.

Jenni,
The rescue I got him from in California said that he was rescued from a dog fighting ring that was busted. That's why I said baiting or dog fighting, since there were scars, but I was not there to see where exactly they came from. :-)

I remember going with the Metro teams when they raided dog fights.  It broke my heart to see two dogs ripping each other to shreds and in one particular case, the poor dog getting it's throat ripped out, looking back at her owner and wagging her stub of a tail.  I saw things that still haunt me to this day.  I do remember taking a particular owner to the ER when he tried to kill his loosing dog in an incredibly cruel manner (we found him because of the horrific sounds from the poor dog) and the owner turned away from the dog for a moment, the dog took the opportunity to rip the owner's bicep from shoulder to elbow, leaving it hanging.  Unbelievably, he asked one of the bystanders to "finish the *&^%".  The dog was taken to the vet along with all the other ones, idiots rounded up and we took the injured owner in the medic to the ER.  He was crying he was hurting and could we please give him something for the pain.

Jenni78,
My aunt and uncle lived in Downers Grove for many years, a beautiful place, not the far from the big city.
Armpit, I don't know how to address that, Chicago is no heaven on earth, I have been there many times.

I've been through Milwaukee and much of Illinois too.
People are the same almost anywhere you go, that's been my experience, good and bad.

Maybe I misunderstood, and what I meant is I don't consider the breed itself an abomination, it is the result of very intense breeding.

Anyway,
If you ever make it out of the flat lands down to the river I'll show you some beautiful unique places and some very nice people.
