I am a Buddhist, not the usual variety you see in robes, eating 3 grains of rice a day. I follow the Nichiren Daishonin school of Buddhism and in that school, a schism occurred between the priesthood and the lay people.
I dont want to bore you with all the details, but, I do want you to know that I am not all love, kindness and more love.
There is a balance in my life that I have struggled to achieve because genetically I am black or white kind of person.
I am not interested in telling anyone who or what to believe, as long as that belief does not tell you to hurt innocents, we are good. If you can do good things for others, please do. If you can leave this world a better place, please do.
I know for a fact that if someone did something to one of my kids, I cannot forgive them. If my kid was the one to start it and they defended themselves against my kid, different story, I am not blind, but, to simply shoot my son on his way to school, for example, is not something I can forgive anyone for and in that regard, I am very big on the death penalty.
Proper decorum prevents me from describing to you exactly how I would want that sentence to be carried out, but, it does not involve the State doing it....
Hund, it may not deter more murders, it may not deter more crime, I get that, but, I have also seen some people who forgave the murderer because of their deeply religious beliefs....I am not one of those people.
I may be wrong, I may be a bad person, but, I am not one to let something like that go...

I have often been told what I think and believe; or what I should think / believe, by posters on here who think they know better than me what is inside my head - so its good to have discussions like this while we are being polite and reasonable with each other, even when we do not agree with each other; makes a lovely change, so TY folks !
You know, I was planning to comment on this too! Yes, this is SO refreshing - people actually listening to one another's points of view, and being civil about it, even if our POVs are different! Hurray!

I guess in my mind, this is normal, discussions are not supposed to be screaming and shouting, name calling or sarcasm, they are supposed to be an exchange of view points, you know, normal every day stuff.

He might not know, Sunny - Hired Dog as far as I can recall has never been a regular contributor to OT, he is certainly not one of the posters I usually associate with this forum.
Its not just the last few months' worth of political entries; I have hung around here some years now, and there have always been contributors who, whether on political, religious, ethical subjects or conspiracy theories, expected that readers would 'fall in' & agree with their (usually extreme) views on these, and resorted to insult when they dared to argue.
It is so nice to see people appreciating the bounds of polite discussion & disagreement, instead of name-calling.

As I continued reading, I found out that they also cannot have a polite, non sarcastic discussion where the goal is not to convert others to their way of thinking, which of course, is the ONLY and correct way.
Oh well, they seem to have left for different forums, I have not seen any in a while, I hope they found happiness.

Hired Dog as usual you have summed it up correctly, class post.
Sunsilver said " But it hasn't been the norm for political threads in this forum for the last couple of months, " I've been doing this job for nearly 10 years and it hasn't been the norm ever!!!!lol, lol. and not just political threads!!

I'm thrilled I didn't contribute to any of the uncivilized behavior.
Big mother of a snowstorm coming here shortly.
Adios

I used to frequent the regular forums, but haven't posted over there for years.
I used to post under Ninja181, but after one of my many banishings, I wasn't allowed to retain that moniker. So if you've been here a long time you might remember me as Ninja181. I'm not complaining just supplying a little history.
Take care,
