This Dog, Roland von Starkenburg became a model for the breed. He proved to be the only stud of his time that could produce the type that Stephanitz was breeding toward from available bitches. There is no German Shepherd Dog living today ( written in 1955) who's breeding does not trace back to Roland.
Roland's Best male offspring, Hettel Uckermark, was crowned Sieger in 1909
