Sunsilver

So, I woke up this AM to find what looked to be a full-scale blizzard raging outside my window. What Smile

Trip to pick up Aaaa has suffered a slight delay!

Awwe for Aaa. . . this time of year the weather is so unpredictable! They had the same thing happen with a border collie. . . adopter was coming from oos and then it snowed. The shelter seems willing to work with unavoidable situations. . . pretty nice folks there!

They were fine with it.

The weather is still not looking great, though. Thank heavens I have 4 wheel drive!

She's home, and she's GORGEOUS!!

I am still trying to figure out if she's a GSL or possibly an American/GSL cross. She has a fair bit of angulation, but not excessive, and a very long, straight back. You just don't see that sort of red pigment in pure American show lines, though.

The lake-effect snow most of the way through Pennsylvania was not fun, and I got totally lost in downtown Pittsburgh. Was quite fried after 10 hours behind the wheel but the Super 8 motel was clean and comfly and had both a small fridge and a microwave, so I didn't even need to eat out...just heated up some leftovers I'd brought with me.

BTW, you people in the States REALLY REALLY need to learn to make a decent cup of coffee! Both the coffee I bought at the Sheetz service centre, and what they served for breakfast at Super 8 were HORRIBLE!  Tongue Smile

The AC facility was very small, and it surprised me that they'd put such a small building on a half acre of land. They do have to kill a lot of animals as they just do NOT have the room to keep them. The room that has the cats in it is quite open, so they do house dogs there in crates when the kennel runs are full. They also have more than one dog share a run, if they get along.

The female I adopted belonged to a Chinese man who speaks almost no English. When they asked him what her name was, it seems he replied 'Aaaaa'. Anyway, he kept her chained up to guard a barn he owned. Neighbours noticed she seemed to have no food or water. AC investigated, and found this was true, so they siezed the dog.

He came and bailed her out. Then AC and the neighbours watched carefully. Several days went by, and there were no footprints in the snow to show that anyone had visited the dog to offer her the necessities of life. AC seized her again, and this time, facing cruelty charges and possibly heavy fines, the man signed her over to the pound.

She was quite thin at the time of seizure, but AC has been treating her very well, and her coat is now shiny and glossy, and her ribs have filled out. They even took the time to teach her to take a treat from your fingers gently!

I will get some pictures later today. And I still have to see how she'll get along with my pack. I was too tired to try anything in the dark last night. I also want to have at least one other person here as backup in case things don't go well, and by the time I got home last night, it was too late to ask for help. My dog-savvy neighbour goes to bed really early!

Sunsilver, here is a tip for you when buying coffee in America.... "America runs on Dunkin".... That means Dunkin' Donuts.... for a reasonbly priced, good cup of coffee. LOL, not familiar with Sheetz service center, myself, but the rule of thumb is gas station coffee ... and food... is sh*t....lol

Beetree, the Sheetz service centres are fairly common along the interstate in Pa and W. Virginia, along with GetGo.  When I first saw the name, I immediately thought, 'there's a bad joke just waiting to happen!'

I was right. They REALLY made me miss Tim Horton's!

I didn't see a single Dunkin' Donuts shop, though I did pass a Baker's Dozen, a brand we used to have in Canada that was pretty good. I didn't stop to check them out, though.

I also stopped at Wal Mart to get windshield washer fluid, but came away without it, as the stuff they sell in W. Virginia is only good down to -20, whihe here, we need the -40 stuff.

However, I noticed Wally World had a nice selection of DVDs and CDs for much cheaper than what I'd pay in Canada. I came away with two double-disc CDs for $7 each, and a copy of Skyfall for only $15! In Canada, newly released movies usually sell for around $20 to $25!

Gonna get the popcorn ready for tonight!  Teeth Smile

That's WONDERFUL!! SO glad she is home with you now!! You are a very kind person to have gone to such effort to rescue her...maybe you can get some info from her tatoo if it's entered in a national registry base. . . Yes, coffee at the most of the chain service stations is horrible. . . more like colored water than real coffee! CoffeeWill look forward to seeing new pictues of her. . . .
