Good old fashioned working GSD bitch. Size, appearance, ability, nerve, boldness etc (44 replies)

Thought i'd post a few pictures for you true working bloodline enthusiasts.
Xena is now 14 months old.
Small/Medium sized. Very lean, muscular, fast and determined. All the attributes one wants in a working GSD.
She's a joy to train - very focussed and always willing to please. Refuses nothing, be it decoys, obstacles, whatever.
Her pedigree can be found on here under 'Audifax Bosse - (Xena)'

STUNNING GIRL ...what titles? |
Probably not to many titles yet at 14 months.I have heard good things about Xena |
Ah ha, I recognize this dog. Nice to see you over here Gary. |
Thanks for the kind words people... much appreciated.
She's no achieved any titles yet. We're not doing any SchH. So it'll just be UK Working Trials.
She's primarily a Personal Protection dog, with the competition side taking second place. But it'll still be nice to try and achieve some titles with her. It would be a shame not to have a go.
Our first major trial will be the Yorkshire Working Cup on June 7th. Then we're also competing in the BPSCA Service Dog 08 on July 8th.
She's still very young at 14 months, and of course we can't enter a working trial until she's 18 months. So it's early days. |

She is truly a marvelous representative of the breed and a real fire cracker. I've enjoyed seeing her grow up in videos and pictures and look forward to reading more about her exploits and working trials as she matures. |

On Saturday 7th June 08, Xena and I competed in the Yorkshire Working and Service Dog trials and came 3rd. I was really shocked to have done so well, especially against such good competition in fellow handlers and dogs, but was understandably very proud. |

can you possibly contact me with details for the father of xena (who by the way is STUNNING!!) thanks. |
Very very cool! Congratulations!!!!! She's a great looking girl. |
We competed in the national BPSCA ServiceDog08 on last Saturday at HMP Newbold Revel.
We 13th place of out 20. I thought that was quite respectable considering she's only 15.5months old and the competition was as good as it was. Some of the best serving dogs in the prison and police service were competing. |
Congrats....she really is stunning!! |
You are one lucky man. I love the dog, I would be more than happy to own stunning dog like yours. Good luck with her wish you all the best. |

Thanks again for the kind and positive messages. Much appreciated.
We've got a break now from trials for a few months. So we'll get stuck into more varied and interesting training. More personal protection and civil stuff, more proofing and also just letting her enjoy herself (which she seems to do, whatever we train).
The next on the horizon is the CD in working trials, when she's 18 months old, which will be late September 08. |
Congratulations!!!! The photos are great. The best one is of the two of you. You look SO HAPPY AND PROUD, and Xena does, too!! What a great day for you both.

For those who like a bit of film footage, below are some links to Xena's training from a couple of months ago. She'll have been about 14 months old on them;

The first one is some personal protection training. Allowing the bad guy to talk to us, but the moment she detects aggresssion in him (in this case his adoption of a fighting stance), she barks/snarls furiously. She's allowed to continue to do so, provided she doesn't lunge at him. As at that stage she hasn't been commanded to do so and I'm also not incapacatated. Finally she is allowed a bite.

Then this footage is of some agility training. (excuse the impromptu commentary from the nice old guy in the background)

Finally, this is from the Yorkshire Working & Service Dog08 trial, on the emergency recall from running criminal

Xena is now 16 months and is maturing nicely. She's muscling up well and her physique continues to be good for a bitch.
I know many like to see pictures on here, so here's a few new pictures showing what I mean. Also one of her getting accustomed to a muzzle;

You should be very proud of her! She's great and filling out very nicely. |

Very pretty bitch. Looks to be superbly pigmented, well ligamented, strong, dry, in top condition and bold and outgoing in temperament. Congratulations on such a fine acquisition. |

Now THAT is a GSD. Well done, so far. |

i have sat and watched all your videos
WOW I AM IN LOVE .
will you be breeding her? if yes put me on the list lol
ps if you ever get bored of her (not likely) you know where to come lol
she is a fantastic example of how our breed SHOULD be
10 out of 10 |

I think the Capt would be happy to see dogs like that in this decade....nice dog! |

Just watched your videos mate, she a little firecracker. Very talented dog, love the KNPV stuff. But what's up with the vigorous back stroke? you look like you are trying to put out a fire, steady on (lol).
But seriously, no need to rush with her, take time to build fundamentals, you're definitely on to a great one. Look forward to hearing more. |

It's obvious to anyone watching the videos of this excellent bitch that she is a real firecracker and has extreme agility and go power. She can turn on a dime and jump effortlessly and has good speed. Looks like superior temperament to me. Again congratulations on acquiring a GSD of this caliber. |

It great to know that so many of you value the same qualities in our breed that I do. The qualities that make the GSD the dog to own, work and live with.
A couple more video clips for you, not on youtube. I took these with my cameraphone the other evening.
They are bits of impromptu agility whilst out walking/exercising. The first one is metal crowd control barrier, with verticle bars you can see between. Although she clears it almost a bit wide, and clips her toe - it's the fact that she did it first time, without question or fault that I like most.

This second clip is of a derelict shed, where the roof has collapsed. The room section, which now forms a ramp, is slippery and bows under weight. Quickly realising what I wanted from her, she ran up the ramp, off the end and to me and then in a DOWN position. Repeated again, to make sure it wasn't a fluke :)

This video below shows some training from today. It involves muzzle work, and multiple aggressors.
I'm sure most of you will know the reasoning behind muzzle training. For those that don't; The use of the muzzle allows her to learn to strike at multiple aggressors and not get 'fixated' on just one. It also means that frustration builds up and the desire to fight is increased.
When she is released (just after I get a whack from a can, because I was taking too long to unfasten the muzzle) - she hits the back guy real good and the fight afterwards is about as real as can be in the circumstancs. Lots of grappling, lots of noise, shouting, screaming etc.... then when the bad guy stops fighting and goes to the floor - she remains hold of him until told to release.
The fight, drive and determination in Xena is really good - much better than I could have hoped for.

Below is a video film showing the working/training bond that Xena and I have. She puts an awful lot of trust in me, that surprises even myself at times.
Some of you will have seen it on other places on the net, for those that haven't enjoy this one;

K9Xena,i have to congradulate you on the training you have done with this young bitch.Amazing, what more could a handler want out of a young dog.She is a true breed representative.I've never had a female but after seeing Xena and a couple other bitches,my next dog will be a female.Im not sure if you listed her lines,is her full name listed? If not what lines is she from? Thanks and I wish you both LOTS OF LUCK and STAY SAFE |

Hi Domenic,
Thanks for your post.
Xena's pedigree is on the database. Her kennel club name is: Audifax Bosse.

I'm no pedigree expert, but I'm told the lines she is from are pretty good... |
Yes indeed, the little i know about working lines i would say i would be proud to have a dog of those lines AND Xena's QUALITY.Amazing what you both have done.Again GOOD LUCK TO YOU BOTH |

I don't know if this training is 'average' or 'extreme'... but Xena seems to enjoy it and it's another "feather in her cap" etc...
I'm aware that some dogs don't like walking/climbing things where you can see through. Others aren't too keen on things that move or wobble etc.. So I thought I'd combine the two in the form of heavy grade wooden trellis.
Various angles for Xena to contend with... She is eager to get onto the ladder, tail wagging and pre-empting me, so once again, her attitude and willingness to please sees her through.

Very cool. |

The situation between Xena and her owner is the ideal relationship and bonding to be attained between a GSD and the master. It is this deep bonding that is so evident in the photos which allows the GSD of ideal temperament to flourish and become everything Capt. Von Stephanitz dreamed of in his GSDs. It just doesn't get any better than this for the GSD or the owner. It's obvious Xena is filled with love and devotion for her master and vice-versa. Isn't this what we all want with our GSDs? |

I have her dog bed ready any time you want to send her over. |

HEY,HEY,HEY Im first in line for her.She comes to me |
