I am looking at buying an adult male for stud that has to be imported. What vet tests should I ask for other than semen evaluation and brucellosis?

What about for an adult female for breeding other than the brucellosis?

Both have hips done and are titled and have produced several litters.

Paying shipping, crate and health certicate is normal...but who pays for the additional vet tests? Me the buyer or the seller?

You the buyer pay for any additional vet cost unless its agreed upon prior and in writting.

Personally when we get a new dog we do the following within 2 days of arrival:
Full CBC
Fecal Sample
Heart worm test
Giardia Test
Full examination
Full grooming
Brucellosis (both male/female)

With males we usually do a semen evaluation within this time period as well.

Its a good investment to have these things done within timely matter - to protect your dog as well as other dogs on the property, if any.

Yes, buyer also pays shipping/crate and health certifications in addition, unless previously outlined and agree 'd in writting.

K9sar06,

Also something you want to test for is eurlichia!  It is more prevalent in europe than here!  I know a "BIG TIME" trainer/breeder that starts all his imports on Doxy when they get here!  Also K9 herpes is very prominant in Europe.  Alot of people give their bitches the vaccine just before whelp.

YOU pay the additional health tests, and they ware WELL WORTH the cost!  You might consider sending only a deposit or something until all the health tests come back negative.

I got my stud's back, hips, and elbows xrayed, as well as other health tests already mentioned.  If the stud's back is not good, it would be hard to have live cover.  Also, some European brokers and such use dummy dogs to get the xrays done to substitute for a dog they have for sale which has a great pedigree and not so good hips or elbows.  So re-checking the hips and elbows on a dog is a good idea.  Expect some wear and tear if he's an older dog done with his career, although I was completely amazed with my stud dog's xrays after a successful career as an international Schutzhund competitor...he could have gone OFA good and normal, I think, at six plus years of age.  I have thought about having the OFA certs done also..but it's more expense on top of expense after expense...spending money on dogs never ends, does it?  Veronica
