Red Sable

Vixen, telling her to concentrate on the puppy, when she has already taken it to emergency is just stupid.  There is nothing she can do at this point, more than what she has already done.
Having had the pup for only 1 week, (hardly enough time to bond) and already looking at an additional $4000 I can certainly see why she is upset.

If the breeder entrusted her with a sick pup, she has every reason to be upset.  I'm sure you would be thinking about money at this point too, after just dishing out $2500.

thank you, everyone and yes sorry vixen

Red Sable, I have to disagree.  The "concentration" seems to be everywhere ..... cost of a the puppy, reimbursements, having him put to sleep.  Presume too, there must have been more than one call too other than to inform the Breeder, in order to start causing an unfavourable "attitude" from the Breeder.

Did the Breeder sell a knowingly sick puppy?

Dogs cost money, one way or the other they cost money.  Whether my dog was with me for one week, one month, one year or ten years - he or she is part of our family.  If a problem already existed soon after bringing a Puppy home, then that would need to be appropriately addressed.  Making an enemy of the Breeder is not a good plan.  Presuming they are the enemy too is somewhat audacious.  If this is a good Breeder, they will surely want the best for their puppies, and for the people who purchase from them.

As for "bonding" I personally bond from the moment that Puppy is mine.  The relationship then continues......

Harley, Apology gratefully accepted.  Very sorry indeed for your situation.

(I too may be overly sensitive at present, as it is not long ago that I had to lose one of my dogs)

All good wishes to you,
Vixen

I do hope your pup pulls through.
I had a young couple that purchased a pup from me and it had the same thing happen
after eating a penny, he didn't make it.

I replaced their pup with a pup I had from the same litter that was returned to me healthy and fine, it was the opposite of the first pup, that was a male black & red, they ended up with a female all black.
I felt terrible about their pup, he had consumed the penny while in their care, I still gave them the replacement pup for half the going price.

I truely hope your pup turns out ok.

Good luck, tough situation you are in.

it is with a heavy heart i write the below, as you know I have been in the hospital the past 24 hours. Kotch the new member to our family fell ill on Friday evening.   his condition deteriorated over the next two days. he was febrile and very lethargic with continuous vomiting. after numerous diagnostic exams, i am saddened to say Kotch was diagnosed with Megaesophagus.  A hereditary condition where the esophagus is dilated and lacks the ability to control proper peristalsis of food. this condition results in relentless vomiting, which was invariably followed with aspiration pneumonia and  sepsis.  There are no surgical treatments to correct the problem.   Kotch's condition continued to worsen, he was laid to rest approximately 2:30 pm today. Although he was only with us for a short period of time, those of you who had the pleasure of meeting him will understand the positive impact he had on everyone.  this is a very difficult time for us. the sweet boy will be greatly missed. thank you all for your support throughout. At this time please understand if we are not readily available to talk on the phone while we are grieving. thank you

I'm sorry too harley.

AND I hope your breeder comes through for you.

by Vogelbergblick on 07 August 2011 - 22:08

Dear Harley aka Dawn Miller,
You did not purchase Kotch. You are making it sound like you did. Money is secondary to Kotch. We are responsible breeders who do our best. Before you post and try to put blame on anyone know the facts first. We are grieving over this situation and Kotch, and asked for a necropsy at our expense since he had a clean bill of health the Wendnesday before he was shipped. We will do the right thing for Kotch and his owner. Please no longer post on this thread for the owner.

Oh my...and the plot thickens.

I am so sorry for poor Kotch, regardless of what human issues there may be in this situation.
