they great ? Particularly en masse ! Your own enchanted
mini-forest.
Until about eighteen months ago we had a black & tan,
unequivocally pure-bred semi-longcoat GSD with soft
ears. He wasn't as tall as Coke, but he was definitely
a Shepherd... and he looked very very very similar to
Coke ! [Minus the white Santa beard LOL]
The only distinct breed other than a GSD that I think of
when I look at the pics of Coke, esp.his head, is a
Hovawart - which would come in that coat & colour, too.
Would also account for that tail, now you mention it.
But the tongue colour indicates as you say, maybe
Shar Pei ... or quite possibly Chow Chow, there have
been lots of Chow/GSD crosses. I'd never have
believed his dam was white & brown pied !!!

VK .. your "Coke" looks identical to "Montana"... she was a St Bernard Golder Retriever mix.. best dog that raised my kids.. I had to take a second look.. amazing how different breeds can actually look the same.. I thought Collie/Shepherd cross as first.. and I love the look in his eyes!! Beautiful trees too !!
Chaos is a handsome one !!

Other than the fact that Coke is mostly black, there's really nothing GSD about him. I thought so too when I saw him on PetFinder which is why I was initially interested in meeting him, but if you see him in person, touch him, etc there is no GSD, at least not more than 1/4 and I'd bet money there's less then that or none at all. His entire conformation is different, even very different than the 1/2 GSD crosses I've seen. You're right about the tonque, I think Chow is what I was thinking of when I wrote Shar Pei. Chow would be much more likely. One of the last puppies I fostered I took over from another foster family and when I went to pick her up there, they had a rescue dog that looked like a large Rottweiler except with a coat more like Coke's and the black tongue. They said that they got their dog from a shelter years ago. We joked that it's probably Coke's father. He does sort of look like a Hovawart but we suspect that is because he could be a mix of some of the breeds used to recreate the modern Hovawart. His mother looked nothing like that though.
