Jenni, no offense take. But if you are referring to my sable bitch Cinda pictured above, I assure you she is not washed out blk/tan, but indeed a true sable......Here is her pedigree and you will see her mother is a sable which her sire is a sable...Please take a look and you will see....

Not trying to argue with you because I believe you are entitled to your opinion, and it is not wrong....No one's opinion is wrong....Just wanted to clarify for Cinda's breeder, that Cinda is a sable......

Love that sable you have a link to in your post above.....

Nonacona, not sure why you'd assume it was about you.

And yes, some people's opinions ARE wrong; there is nothing subjective about the color gene a dog carries. ;-)

Well, there is not a distinction between patterned sables and "regular" sables in any registration that I'm aware of. If we're going to delve deeper into descriptives to describe the varying appearances of genetically sable dogs, then I'd say a patterned sable will bear markings like a black and tan or bicolor- eye "brows", marks behind ears, shoulderblades, front of chest, etc. My "regular" sables have no such markings, whereas Apache and Xander show clear blankets/saddles, as well as a clear mask as in a b&t. Am I making any sense? Apache has a mask w/lighter eyebrows and marks behind his shoulderblades, as well as an almost entirely black blanket...yet the fur in those areas is sable, whereas if it were solid black he would be a bicolor or b&t.

They're all just SABLES:-)

They are all registered as sable - just as black/tan's are reg just that - but colors do vary... I know it is a matter of opinion on what the dog color is when it comes to sable...  But even though the registry doesn't distinguish between the different colorations of the sable - there is really a difference between the colors..    Registry isn't what we are talking about on this thread - I want to be able to look at a sable dog and say that dog is . a  ______ sable...

.   But again, it just is the individuals opinion - Nona doesn't think her bitch "Lissa" is a pattern sable - I think she is - I don't think your Apache is a pattern sable - you do...  I have a black and red majestic blanket back and other people think she is a bicolor..

But I do respect what you are saying -  I still think that people can't identify a pattern sable - In my opinion, I see a pattern sable - with t the line on the shoulder and a blanket - dull in comparison to a solid blanket - I would call it discolored -- many colors in the what is suppose to be a black blanket on a dog you would classify as a blanket back blk/tn...  It is simply this----  a  pattern sable is a dog  that has a distinctive pattern in it's body hair....  correct me if you feel I am wrong...
