Maybe the problem is we have made the breed become specialists when they were supposed to be utilitarian and versatility by the very core of their existence??

Smiley, many people will disagree with this, but I am not one of them!  Regular Smile Before the GSD became so specialized, it was regarded as the dog that was second-best at everything. Well, except maybe for protection and police work. It was considered #1 in that area.

I even know of people who have trained their GSDs to retrieve game birds and waterfowl.

Sunsilver...so funny you said that!! My girl could compete with bird dogs and I contacted AKC to see if she could get her JH (junior hunter) title and they flat out refused. Only sporting breeds are allowed. What hogwash!!! Heck, if a lab wants to try herding than I say go for it!!!!  I think they just didn't want a GSD to put their retrievers to shame!! Wink Smile

GSDlineage.....is there a way on the site to find out decsendants of those dogs? I can only do progeny. Can I plug something in and have all dogs tracing to one of these dogs magically appear or is that wishful thing for my luddite self!!!

That's Dan Smith's kennel (Darby-Dan).. He's a AKC judge.  More recently:

It seems like he's had to stick with pure German lines in order to achieve this, though.

I did just e-mail him and ask if he has any Audi descendants left in his program out of curiousity.

Another ASL breeder (Morton and JanetGoldfarb) just imported: German Reserve Sieger VA-2 Nino Von Tronje SchH 3

I understand as show people they probably like the show look of the showlines. But, seems they might be better served importing a top V rated Working line male. But, I don't know anything.

Use the Reverse Pedigree Feature to find descendants:

Descendants of: DeAnnson's On Broadway

Descendants of: CH Darby-Dan's Audi

The real problem I see is the ability to title with limited shows in the US. It is so much more economical to get a titled dog. shipping and all. Most purchase pre-titled dogs, but some will also send the dog back to europe to get the title, if you can afford it.

Smiley, before I had any dealings with Darby-Dan, I'd PM a poster on this board named Blitzen. Just sayin.... Sad Smile
