Hexe,

You asked.......

"None of my business, but out of curiosity, am I correct in translating the designation "AR" as 'assault rifle'?

And if so, why on earth would anyone need such a weapon unless they were (a) military or law enforcement, (b) arming themselves against the coming (?) revolution?  Again--just curious."

I bought mine for long distance shooting.. a sport, after reading 3 gun smiths rave about how accurate the DPMS .308 is.

It still needs a trigger job badly. Up where I live everybody owns one. I sighted it in today, with my new scope....I have to tell you for

personal defence, at short range I really like my AK47. Only 8lb's and never jams.

The Ak 47 is accurate, out to about 100 yards, and  is very effect. That and a good shotgun......The one thing you can be sure of is the police will

arrive after you have been shot, stabbed or if you are a woman raped. Better learn to shot.

I think Thomas Jefferson said,..., "you will never need the second amendment until the Government tries to take it away from

you".....No Government stands strong because the police or military...They stand strong because of the people....It is

an American thing...........78,000,000. people have been murdered by their own Government. mainly third world countries, according to Amnesty International. ( China, third world countries, Middle east).

The Veteran of Foreign War are my brother in arms and have sworn an oath to defend this country

aginst enemies foreign and domestic....That was the founding fathers idea to make sure we live in

a free country.

I am not weird or anything ...just NRA....you bet ya.!!..........I think there may be something to the one world Government theory.

Because of my involvement with NATO and the bible and ............The UNITED NATIONS. At least that looks like where we are headed anyway.

I don't belong to any secret organization. Or organizations with secrets. Just me Nicky my horse and my dogs Rex, Uta and Nina.

Hope that put you at easy......Now go buy a Gun and get some training......Fear really sucks.

President Kennedy was assassinated right after a speech he made saying a free country can not prosper with secret societies.

That these organization need to bare scrutiny like any other.....People think that is why he was murdered....What do you think?

I have a question for you......What is up with.. Hexe...are you like Wicca or something like that? Not that am running down, ......

you know Pagans. I  had known of some real evil devil worshiping types in the bay area... years ago..

Max, I'm not anti-gun ownership.  I just don't necessarily see the point of an individual having something like an assault rifle unless they think they are going to need (or want) to kill someone someday.  A good shotgun, OTOH, has other uses aside from hunting humans, and seems like a more sensible choice if one is looking to arm themselves.  It's the weapon of choice in my part of the world.

Personally, I don't have any interest in getting a concealed carry permit--if I'm going to carry a handgun, I'd rather have it visible, a clear message that says, "Don't screw with me. I'm not the one."

As for the screen name, that's the name of the bitch I lost last February after 14 1/2 years together...my entry into the world of the 'net coincided with her entry into my life, and it's a nice, short name.  :)  Not a Wiccan or pagan, or anything else for that matter; IMO, organized religion of any stripe has done nothing beneficial for the world, but can nearly always be found at the base of every human conflict.  Better to live by the simple tenets of "Try to be as nice, as honest and as generous as possible. Try not to get hurt, and try not to hurt anybody else, and if you do hurt someone, apologize. Do the best you can, and share what's been shared with you."

Very good.. I would only add...don't try to seek out people to hurt, to make you feel better about yourself.
like.... you know..........them.  Not you, but the ones that don't seem to have alot going for them,
and so they feed off those who do.

I got the AR15 to do some long distance shooting on a recommendation. I shot it to day and it is everything
they say it is. The DPMS.308 LR. Not just hype,.. it is very accurate. I have the heavy barrel.

i have a DPMS AR15 and have been very happy with it.  mine shoots .223 & 5.56.  i thought about iron sights vs a scope and decided to stay with the iron sights.  they are very accurate and i don't have to worry about them getting messed up.  i have to agree - DPMS right out of the box is ready to go.  if you are wanting to shoot .308 why not look at the new AR10s.  i don't know what all they offer for options but you could probably customize it to fit your needs.

Hexe,
I got the Dpms AR-15 because it was 3x rifle of the year, in rifle magazine. The hype
was that the barrels were so good they shoot like a a Hart match barrel on a bolt
action rifle for long range shooting. I just installed my Chip Mccormick trigger on it and added
a Houge hand grip.

Unbelievable...it shoots very nice ..after the new barrel went through the initial break in. I shot
3 sub moa groups at 200 yards.
I recommend G David Tubbs way of smoothing the bore out by having the micro particles
feather down towards the breach or crown front of the barrel.

Bob,
I am finding out that alot of people like the 270 round. You are right it shoots a flat
trajectory. And is very accurate with less recoil.
