Abby,
so far I could not find anything at the regional websites of the SV Landesgruppen but here is a link to the news archive from the SV: www.schaeferhunde.de/site/fileadmin/pdf/presseinfo/2010/SVZTG_05-2010a.pdf The results were published in the May 2010 issue of the SV Magazin.
What I could see was that SV members were asked in 2008 and 2009 to have their dogs' x-rayed for spinal problems. This was financed by the SV and the members did not have to pay anythinig for that service. The x-rays were evaluated by the University of Giessen, Professor Tellhelm who is the evaluator for ED and 2nd opinion evaluator for HD - Ist one is still Prof. Brass from the TH in Hannover.
Dr. Nele Ondreka and Dr. Kerstin Amort, both ladies with Prof. Tellhelm in Giessen, wrote the conclusion of the study which was published in May 2010. It is all in German unfortunately, and do not ask me to translate as I can hardly understand all in German (and that is my first language). But Prof. Tellhelm summed up in the end that he does not recommend a mandatory screening at this point as more research is needed to select and screen according to x-rays and that it is not sure it is all genetic (see page 7, right side and page 8 top part at the above link).
I will research and look for more info. If I find anything I will post it here.
Regards, Chris

Chris
Thanks very much for posting this for me. I will endeavour to understand it after translation. I think I may need to enlist the help of my German speaking friends!
I really appreciate you coming back with this information.

Could this posting be considered a Personal message (PM) and therefore moderated?
Moderator edit: Not a pm. Only copies of pm's/email's can be deleted.
The post certainly is a Personal Message to Abby Normal.

A PM is a PM, not a post. Don't be so childish.

Chris, that is certainly information important to most of us, so thanks for making it available to all of us and for not sending it via "pm".

Videx,
what is your problem?? When I read your comment here, I could not believe it.
I have seen many of your threads and posts ove the years and especially in the early time here as "Solo" which I deemed inappropriate and personal but refrained from commenting because it was none of my business. Is it because I addressed it to somebody from the UK (which is where you are located, right Abby?)? I want to bet that you would have never bothered with this thread here if the addressee was located in the U.S. or elsewhere. Even though it is not on your business your highness, I will give you an explanation: Abby (who does not know me and I do not know her) had asked me about this topic in a different thread which had nothing to do with it. In order not to interfere with the other discussion I decided to open its own thread, nothing more, nothing less. I addressed it to Abby, so she would not overlook it. I do hope that there is going to be a discussion about it, as I am interested to see if others have more information.
Moderator: I will edit the title of this thread but if this gets deleted due to Videx' complaint, I will never start a discussion thread here again. To me it would be a further indication of the overall degeneration of this board which is a true shame.

Ok, I tried to edit the title but could not do it. I am either too blond or Firefox here at work won't let me. I try later at home.
Moderator edit: You have done nothing wrong and Videx does not run this site. BTW, you cannot change the topic on the German shepherd side of the forum. Oli has been notified about that problem.

Ignore Videx' comment, you have done nothing wrong, and the title is appreciated, as I may have missed it otherwise. He commented not because you have addressed it to me because I am in the UK (which is right, I am), but because he is trying to 'hit back' at the moderator who removed a post of his which was against the TOS.
It is important information which should be shared with everyone, and I thank you again for taking the trouble to post it.
Kind regards
Abby

moderator wants to be pedantic, and supported by Abbey Normal, I can also be pedantic.
Silbersee - I don't give a toss about yours or anyone else's negative opinion of my posts, get it?

Thanks Silbersee,
for posting this so that the mass can now follow a study done by a GSD organization to possibly benefit the GSD community as a whole. This is the problem. Folks have potentially important and or valuable information and keep it to themselves. I understood your post to get the attention for one individual but posted for everyones benefit.
Thank You,
Kyle
