Hello all ...

I have a question in regards to working German shepherds .

I was hoping someone here would know or be of some help! I am looking for a German shepherd dog who would excel into protection work ! But the type of dogs that I see or Come across seem to be sporting dogs! I'm looking for a dog who has more seriousness and hardness who also has natural aggression ! I've also read a few topics here with similar questions and was hoping for more constructive knowledge /anwsers! I have no idea where to look but have tried calling numerous breeders ! I don't want a dog who needs lots of training , but a dog who has more natural abilities for this type of work! Please any advice would be helpful

Thanks

DM

A dog with "natural aggression" DOES need suffucient training to effectively utilize such behaviours without being a lawsuit waiting to happen. If you buy a dog that is already trained, you still have to learn how to handle the dog and keep up the level of training. If you get a "green" dog or a pup then lots of training is needed. There is no getting around the need for training, so if you don't want to train to a minimum standard then you will be setting yourself and your dog up for failure and possible legal consequences.

For example, my first dog was a Bouvier who grew to be quite naturally protective but also a bit of a hazard to public.   I realized that I had to get his aggression under control or I would be in trouble, so I started training him in schutzhund.   After training at length he became a reliable protector that wasn't a public "liability on a leash".      Just something to think about....

So... are you looking for kennel Options for a pup/young dog or are you looking for a trained dog?

Have you checked out Kreative Kennels? They tend to focus their breeding program more around civil drive and not 'Sport' as much. Personaly i have like most of what i have seen come out of their kennels plus I am partial to Salztalblick/Salztal-Höhe lines which they use a lot of

When you say you "don't want a dog that needs lots of training" then it leads one to conclusions that may be inaccurate.

Yes kennel options . Persons who breed for this type of work. I would prefer a pup , but would have to be a repeat breeding. Litters are like a lotteries. Like I said any advice please and thanks for the reply cutaway.

When buying a puppy...You're buying Bloodlines ONLY...Puppies are a Crap Shoot at best...You roll the dice and see what happens...You might be more interested in a Young Adult or an Adult...then you can see everything you're getting...
Depends on what experience you have and how much time you're willing to put into the puppy...Then to see physically what the puppy turns out to be...

Not picking apart with my last post, just offering an explanation as to why I mis-interpreted your first post. If I offended you then it was not my intention and for that I apologize.

BTW, I happen to have a young dog with more natural suspicion and defence (but still great prey/balance) than I have had in previous dogs. He is doing well in sport although I plan to do more with him if I can after titling in IPO - it's a matter of access to resources where I live.

No offence takin .. Been on a few forums before and i swear you feel like your getting attacked for questions like this! Sorry if my post is misleading !

options are on the table for me , a young dog or puppy . I would not want an adult trained dog . I have a two yr old Malinos I bought just recently ! I would rather take my chances .. That's why I posted here in search of some advice

Thanks
