Hello, im just having trouble judging my pups growth rate at 16 months hes 70lbs but very slender. his rib cage almost is wider then his shoulders. I saw anuther shepherd from the same breeder but a different litter & he was only 6 months older then my pup & had a similar build but just looked.. well... jacked. I understand every litter is different but his father was V rated at the (BSZS) and his entire family tree is V & VA rated. This is also my first shepherd so im impatient at the fact of everyone telling me he will "fill in eventually". I guess im just looking for estimates in his growth in his head\shoulders\neck & overall weight at his full growth. Hes a showline german import. Is fed Orijen 1.5cups twice a day. He is also still intact & trains 3 times a week at 3 phases of the schutzhund sport. Thanks..

He is at his adult height, but will continue to fill out till 24-28 months old, at which time he should be fully mature.

Busy dog, entire male - while he is burning off lots of energy for those reasons, he's
not going to put on excess poundage.  Don't worry about it.  As long as you are sure
you are giving him enough to eat, you just have to be patient.  Muscle weight built
somewhat slowly is better than flab put on quickly, for all sorts of health reasons
now and later.  If you didn't work him and he was neutered you'd see a difference, on
exactly the same diet -but it wouldn't be good for him.  Enjoy your fit pup !!!

The key here is whether or not his stool is normal.  If not have the " TLI " test for mild EPI.  Do some Internet reserach on this. If it is normal, check his thyroid too.  And have a stool sample analyzed with flotation method and snap test.  If parasite free and everything is normal but you think he is still too thin, you may want to increase food while feeding 2X per day and adding plant enzymes.  Sometimes a particular brand of food is insufficient for a high energy GSD and one needs to change it or supplement it with chicken, beef or fish.  Posting a photo would make it easier to offer an opinion.  Many high energy males do not fill out until 24-36 months.

Thank you for your imput as I had a great convo with the breeder last night, he kept one of my pups sisters for there breeding program. With this he said to add raw hamburger to his meals ( large meatball size) & also to put him on safeguard to eliminate all chances of parasites effecting his nutritional intake. And lastly he said to relax because males take 2-3 years to fill in & hes only 1 year & 5 months ! lol. Thanks again..

at 16 months, my puppies get much more food..........

males get 2-3 cups twice a day.
females get 1.5 - to 2.5 cups twice a day.

they are like teenagers, always hungry, always wanting to eat.
