so i have a 7month gsd. and my situation is getting worse and worse.
when he was a little puppy i tried for him to meet new people. greet them nicely and what-not.
well now he sees someone new he barks alot and his hair goes up.
i don't know if it is a sign of aggression or fear.
we were in the pet store today. i was just buying some dental bones for the dogs.
and when ever someone would say hi. he would move back alittle bark and hair goes up.
i know dogs like kids go threw a phase.
will he grow out of it?
or should i just maybe take training in the pet store just for socialization?
he trains with a club. so i got the training.
any suggestions would be really helpful

This is a factor involving fear ....... How old is the dog ??? Is not a good situation to see in a dog .... ESPECIALLY if it is going to be worked in Sch-Ring or police ............... my as well say AKC also ....................

No, ckc is fine. They play by hockey rules. He'll go to the box for 5 minutes for fighting, but he may get an instigator penalty and get ejected.

It is quite common for a dog to go through a 'fear period' around 7 or 8 months. Just keep socializing the heck out of him, and he should outgrow it.
This type of behaviouor is much more common with the American line GSDs. My German/American female never went through this. However, my female Shiloh, who is descended mainly from American showline dogs did.
One way to help him overcome it is to work very, very hard on attention and focus at home, then carry this over into situations he finds stressful. When he starts to show anxiety, given him a command like 'sit!' to get his attention back on you and off the fearful person/object. Then reward him when he obeys.
If you are not going to use him for PP, I would also recommend getting him to take treats from strangers. That should help him realize they are nothing to worry about.

If the dog shows such expressed awareness its rather counter productive to do this kind of socialisation right now.
I would not encounter the dog again and again with his weak point. Find his strength, like food or playing and make him strong
in these areas before gradually approaching different situations where he shows the unwanted behaviour.
All the best

hi,
well this is his pedigree
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=702426
i dont think there is amercian lines in him.
but i would be wrong.
his lines are border patrol dogs.
but it was wierd. my friend that he has never met before came over.
i took him out of the truck off leash, his recall is really good.
my friend walked up my driveway, and my dog just stood infront of me. barked, loud and clear.
and kinda wierd tho, he did a holding bark. raelly close to my freind, i told him not to move. then i just put him inside the house. and then he was nice to him once he sniffed him and what not.
what kind of behavior would that be
