Does anyone on PDB have a used and no longer used narc pseudo scent kit and have the scents been stored properly? Please give a holler if you have one, need to buy one, and the ones I see for entire kit are out of my range in price. Thanks Mike

How well do those kits work when it comes to training dogs?

None of the PD's I know train with them. There are some dog vendors / training companies I know that use pseudo because they can't get the real thing. I have training aids issued to me and get dope on practically a daily basis on the street. It is also beneficial to train with real aids for my court testimony. I've seen dogs trained in pseudo certify on real narcotics and the same with explosives. I'm sure they work but when you have access to the real thing there is no need for us to buy pseudo.

jim , there is a wide range of drugs available on the street , do they all have a common smell factor or do you have to train for each kind of drug seperately

We train for Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Ecstacy, Cocaine, Crack Cocaine, and Heroin. We will also train on Mushrooms. Those are the main drugs we see and we certify on those odors yearly.

but do you have to teach every drug seperately , same as moneydogs , do dollars smell different than euros , or any other papermoney

Damn, it is cheaper to buy the real stuff than it is to buy the pseudo kits...lol
Cops can get the real stuff to train dogs for detection and regular trainers who train police k-9's can't. If the kits aren't as good as the real thing then why bother getting a dog trained on pseudo kits? Why don't PD's just do narcotics training on their own?

Duke,
We start out training with "3 in 1's" a combination of Marijuana, Cocaine and Heroin. Then we split the odors and teach them individually. We will combine them again in training as we often find them combined on the street. I made several crack cocaine distribution arrests this past week and each guy had weed with his crack.
I would imagine Euro's have a different scent picture to the dog than dollars would. I have not trained a currency dog, but my dog will alert to money with a residual odor of narcotics on it.
