Here we go again...after last Junes' killing of 28 copperheads, by my son, while here on recovery, I walked up on my first copperhead 4 weeks ago. It got away before I ended its life but tonight I was successful in removing number two from my path. Again, a near miss and I had my boots on. I put out some Sulfur in places around the house but this was down by the barn...yuk makes me very much on edge. Every stick on the place also looks like a snake laying on the ground all .

Copperheads are everywhere in Tx it seems... May I share my experiences? (thanks! hehe)
When I first moved there, I saw one going very slowly across the road and thought "what a gorgeous snake!" I pulled over on the side of a dirt road and right after I did, an very, very nice elderly gentleman whipped over to the side of the road, jumped out of his truck flailing his arms like a lunatic and ran over when he saw what I was up to. Since it was still kinda cold still, the snake was moving slow and I wanted a better look.... Thankfully the man stopped! I was able to jump back into my truck and ran over him about a dozen times with my moster tires LOL
Then one day Matt was outside and I heard him yelling "GET THE GUN, HURRY!!" So I came charging out with the .22 rifle like Annie Oakley, not knowing what to expect! He said while he was clearing brush he found a 6' rattler.. So now it's raining and we were on a snake hunt, we never found the rattler, instead we found a whole nest of baby copperheads less than 20' from our home!!
My next experience was one resting on my front step! I was wearing flip flops and just happened to glance down... I made Matt get him with a shovel.
The last and most scary experience was when my son was not old enough to walk and sitting in his stroller. It was early morning and we were outside, I was enjoying my coffee and got up to move our tarp that acted as a windblocker.... Well I moved the 2 x 4 holding the bottom down so I could roll it back up, and there was a copperhead coiled right by my hand and only inches from the baby... I started screaming for Matt who was inside with the tv blaring and couldn't hear me. Oh and scaring the wits out of my poor baby making him cry in the process :-(
The closest thing in reach was a two foot long steel pipe so I grabbed it and smashed the offending repitile until I was pretty certain he was dead. By then my child is screaming (I guess because drama queen I can be, "I" was still screaming lol) So I angrily marched to the door with the coppoerhead hanging off the end of the pipe to give Matt what-for for not saving me and his child.
He had the nerve to laugh in my face... He said "Oh my God Stace, you didn't need my help, you beat it down to the white meat, there's almost nothing left of it!" YUCK!!!!!!! Stay safe YR... and I heard moth balls work too!
