Pepper spray wont' do it;  you need "Bear Spray, shoots about 20 feet in a cloud and in a stream carry a stun gun also, have to touch the subject though which can also be dangerous...  good luck.  Nan

Ammonia in a spray bottle with a strong stream.       Will not harm the people around, stronger deterrent than many other odours for dogs.

I don't think he could have started shooting in the crowd like that with all those people there without sure problems. There are places this happens were you can't have a gun though, actually even a spray bottle would be something you are not likely to carry. The bottles for bear are really big looking. The woman below had no dog with her either.

The problem with bear spray is if the wind blows it back at you.    Better than nothing though.    Is it legal to carry mace spray in USA for personal protection, the kind that fits in your hand?     It is illegal in Canada, but bear spray is OK.   

hate to say it but i think the focus should be on reducing the number of strays (to zero)  instead of figuring how to protect against them.

Its illegal to have it at the store I work at, which I think is stupid since I have to catch public transportation and at early hours. Sometimes I have to catch it late at night too. I may just have to bend the rules anyway. I'm in school for my BA and I have to take really late classes starting this summer on campus, won't get out until really late.

There must be something you can do if you don't have a weapon with you.

Some are strays, but some are also dogs that people let out durring the day while they go to work, and then let back in at night or, maybe escaped dogs too. I found this sound device, but i don't think it would work if the dogs were more committed or if people start using it so much the dogs get wise to it. There is footage of LE with tazers on a dog to get it to let go of another dog on the street and that took a really long time to work.
