I found a sparrow that appears to have a broken tail. He was attempting to fly without much success. I caught him, brought him in and have him under a laundry basket, but I have no idea where to start him on the road to recovery, if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

See if you can locate a local wildlife rehab specialist in your area. Or contact the local Audubon society for suggestions.

I left a message at the Animal Rescue League, they won't be open until morning. Just hoping the little bugger makes it through the night :(

Travels, if all that's wrong IS a broken tail, s/he should last the night (tail is all feather; it may have landed badly and whacked it and broken some feathers, or this might be the result of a near-miss by a predator). Nice soft box, somewhere warm and quiet, and as Bee suggests call the experts as soon as they open. Good luck.

So did they seem to think he would make it through the weekend ?

Yes, they said sparrows, in particular, do very well!
